Some of my tea ware will be at the Berlin tea Festival (on the stall of LeavesWithHugs)... Problem is… I have no more stock… So I have to make quite a lot of new teaware.
I started the production run with making some slightly larger teapots, these will have a capacity of around 500 ml. Here they are, drying and firming up a bit before cleaning up the edges.
The problem with larger sidehandle teapots is that the handle is quite heavy compared to the thickness of the wall of the body of the teapot, and because I fire my pots to a very high temperature (cone 12 and up) my clay has the tendency to sag a little making the opening, where the lid goes ever so slightly oblong.
Before I make more teapots for the Berlin tea Festival I want to test a few methods of preventing this warping by adding some supports in the kiln. I've made eight teapots that I will use to test different support setups to see if it solves proble..
I am very happy with how these test pots have turned out, their weight and body shape is lovely and balanced. So I really hope most of them survive the tests and will be available in Berlin next month!
