An impression of medieval markets

An impression of medieval markets

The Strick wheel is the oldest version of the potters wheel that uses throwing techniques that are still used today by modern production potters. Since making one I have taking it an a tour to Het Prehistorisch dorp, Erve Eme and Middeleeuws Erf de Bergkamp. It is a fine tool. It just works... yes it is a bit more physical than an electric wheel, but for making simple shapes like the Gallo-Roman wine cups it is hardly any less efficient than a modern one

Additionally, throwing on this wheel occasionally is very good for ones throwing technique. It provides not support for the arms so the potter must learn to move with the clay. It is humbling at first but becomes an almost Zen like experience over time
